FORMAT

Watch this video to see how you play ‘500 for 2’. Played by 2 people, not 4, but the excitement level is just as good.

Same rules apply as for normal 4-player 500.

See below for ‘local rules’ and for the Competition format.

LOCAL RULES

Listed below are the ‘local rules’:

  • Misere and Open Misere can be called.

  • Misere can only be called after a 7 bid.

  • A bid of 10 of any suit or ‘10 No Trumps’ will outbid an Open Misere call.

  • When the bid is ‘No Trumps’ a player may lead a trick with the joker by naming the suit to be followed, but may not name a suit to which the player has previously claimed to be void.

  • The non-bidder will score 10 points for each trick they take, but they cannot win a game by using these points.

  • If a bidder wins all 10 tricks they score 250 points if their bid was below this amount of points.

  • A game in progress when the 40 minutes has elapsed may continue if the bidding has concluded and if the result will determine the winner of the match.

  • The winner of a match will have ...

    • Won 2 games (best of 3), or

    • Won 1 game, lost 1 game and was in front in the 3rd at the end of play, or

    • Won 1 game, lost 1 game, and was in the 3rd game at the end of play, but had the highest total points from all games, or

    • Won 1 game, and may have been in front or behind in the 2nd game (where no 3rd game was played), or

    • Been in front in the 1st game (where no 2nd or 3rd games were played).
